End of Summer at Lincoln Center

End of Summer at Lincoln Center

Here’s Rey, who just acquired a new gold purse to celebrate the end of Fashion Week, making the most of the late summer weather on the steps of Lincoln Center Plaza. Planning to hang out a little longer, maybe get some gelato, and then see if she can get someone’s extra ticket to the opera tonight.

Rey is made of brown wool left over from the Jedi Halloween costume I made for my daughter when she was in 4th grade (which is why she is named Rey, something you will understand only if you have seen The Force Awakens). Rey’s dress is the sleeve of a worn-out sweater, her sash is the top of a sock, her gold bracelet is an earring that has lost its mate, and her shoes are made from a Qantas Airlines cosmetics bag. Qantas is featuring the work of Australian artists on these bags: this one is called “Bubblegum Dystopia” by Jacob Leary (flg.com.au).
