100-Day Projects

I was first introduced to the idea of the 100-Day Project by a good friend who was teaching a course about it. I told her I wished I could take her class, and she looked at me and said, “You know, you don’t have to take a class. You can just do it.” And she sent me this article: Five Years Of 100 Days.

The concept is simple: come up with a small creative project and repeat it every day for 100 days. I’ve found that the secret to success is to think of something that, if necessary, you could do at 11:58 pm without leaving your home. It’s a kind of meditation, a daily experiment, a way to exercise the creative part of your brain regularly, often a burden, sometimes a disappointment, occasionally a source of delight, and always, ultimately, a surprise.
